The Department was founded in 1972 as the Department of Industrial Chemistry.
One major objective of our teaching and research is to offer an environment where students can learn diversified skills and knowledge so as to broaden their vision and stimulate their interests in emerging technologies that require cross-field training. The Department also aims to offer a highly active and interacting research environment to accommodate new challenges in a constantly changing hi-tech environment and help students develop their own initiatives.
Performing high-quality research has been, and will always be, our foremost goal. Initially, the Department has been renowned for the petro-chemical and polymer research. As the trend in worldwide chemical engineering research and teaching changes, the Department has also expanded the research areas to frontier materials, nanotechnology, biological engineering, and opto-electronics, which is reflected in our recent faculty recruitment.
