Established in 1991 as the very first Department of Life Sciences in Taiwan, the Department of Life Sciences allows students to explore various areas of life science in an integrated yet diverse program built upon a solid foundation of chemistry, physics, mathematics and biology. The Department of Life Sciences offers an undergraduate B.Sc. program in Biology, whereas the four Institutes offer graduate programs in a variety of research areas.
The Department of Life Sciences is home to some of Taiwan’s finest researchers and educators, all sharing the same passion for equipping undergraduate students for advanced studies and helping them succeed. The undergraduate curriculum covers many aspects of biology, such as cell biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, physical biochemistry, bioinformatics, structural biology, genomics and proteomics. Advanced students may also register for graduate-level courses. The Department also encourages its students to actively engage in research, by conducting independent Research Projects at the laboratory of their choice.
