    Abstract: A flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) requires highly demanded properties in the substrate birefringence, electrode conductivity, and cell gap control when it is used in a bending condition. In this work, the effect of bending-induced stress on the conducting layer and the birefringence of the IZO/PC substrate were studied. The electro-optical property of a flexible LCD with micro-structure bending in different curves were also investigated. The results show that the commercial Indium Zinc Oxide IZO/polycarbonate PC substrate and the periodic spacers of cross shape are good enough to be employed in the application of the electrically controlled birefringence (ECB) or polarization rotation LC mode.
