Abstract: The reactions of 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro-1,2-disilacyclobutene with aldehydes and ketones are studied at 0-5°C. The formation of the products found is rationalized in terms of an initial attack by the carbonyl oxygen on one of the two silicon atoms, which assists the cleavage of the SiSi bond to form a diradical intermediate, followed by either ring closure or hydrogen abstraction.
